Cullinan Ivanov Partnership demonstrates the creative process for a recent hospitality project – translating the idea for leaf motif to transform in a cost effective way the existing façade of St Johns Park Bowling Club.
In keeping with the guiding design idea to create a garden oasis escape for patrons in the hot beating sun of Sydney’s west, a concept for a leaf motif was developed for the once barren and austere St Johns Park Bowling Club entry and façade. This idea is visible from the approach to the entry, the façade features a screen with a leaf motif artwork, based on a photograph taken by Cullinan Ivanov Partnership of a creeping evergreen plant. This photograph was digitized and then converted to perforations which were set out on aluminum panels. The perforation density varies creating the light and shade of the leaf details. The pattern was then computer laser cut in aluminium panels and set out on the façade framing. Each panel was numbered and had to be installed in accordance with detail set out plans.
