Cullinan Ivanov Partnership have been collaborating closely with St George Leagues Club to re-invent the entire venue once known as the ‘Taj Mahal’. This major refurbishment and expansion project is aimed at enhancing the club’s functionality and appeal — restoring it to its former glory as the premium entertainment and leisure venue of the city’s south. The building will be provided with an entirely new façade and entry sequence. The façade echoes the original mid-century modern architectural style. A new verandah-like alfresco food and beverage area will create a vibrant frontage visible from the Princes Highway and featuring a striking circular, faceted rotunda dining space. A grand entry foyer will allow seamless connection to all the club’s offers on the ground and first floors.
The new foyer will be a welcoming, modern and light filled space with a double-height atrium containing sculptural artwork and crowned by a large central skylight feature. The lounges and dining areas are being entirely re-configured with new bars, a state-of-the-art commercial kitchen, and associated back-of-house areas. An expansion to the rear of the club will introduce a massive double-height sports viewing and pub lounge area creating the premium sports viewing location in Sydney. On the first floor, a new function/convention style centre will overlook the double height entry foyer and be complemented with new amenities, commercial kitchens and other state of the art facilities. The famous Crown Dragon Chinese restaurant will be re-created in a modern, relaxing and comfortable new restaurant space.
