Sage is a new café creating a street front experience within Campbelltown Catholic Club’s new foyer. With barista made coffee and steeped boutique teas, the cafe is set amongst a backdrop of large feature pots and fiddle leaf figs, and creates a focal meeting point beneath the new grand staircase.
Sage forms part of a wider refurbishment to the entry and foyer of the club which re-engineered patron movement through the venue. Sage is an important part of this new journey and creates the ‘first stop‘ on arrival, becoming a significant destination and meeting point.
Our goal was to create the feel of an edgy street front café. The challenge was to anchor the café comfortably within the large volume internal club foyer space whilst creating its own identity that formed a welcoming central meeting point. The suspended tube lighting, aged brass ribbon signage, and terracotta floor finish gives the café a sense of scale and form even though it remains open and welcoming to the foyer space.
The neutral colour palette with warm timbers, terracotta and cementitious wall finishes contrasts with the sparkling backdrop of the glazed spine wall which throws light and splashes of colour from the restaurant behind. The spine wall also provides elegant storage displays of coffee and other products. The long monolithic veined stone counter provides a seductive sleek shape complementing the more rustic finishes and focusing the glass display.
